House Resolution 32

Commemorating the life of James E. Morford, member of the House of
Delegates from the 33rd District of Calhoun County.
Whereas, On July 12, 1918, James E. Morford was born in
Grantsville, West Virginia, the son of Dr. J.A. and Margaret
Morford; and
Whereas, James received his education in the public schools,
Glenville State College, Marshall University and West Virginia
University; and
Whereas, On August 30, 1946, James was married to Mary K. Price
of Spencer, West Virginia. James and Mary had two children: Kathryn
Ellen and James Amyot, II; and
Whereas, From 1939 to 1941, Mr. Morford taught school and
served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Morford
also was a former employee of the State Tax Commission, owner and
operator of the Bridge Service Station in Grantsville, and served
two terms as Calhoun County sheriff. He later retired as
Grantsville Postmaster in 1980, where he was employed as Democrat
Party Chairman in Calhoun County and as Recorder for the Town of Grantsville; and
Whereas, James attended the Knotts Memorial United Methodist
Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Eureka Lodge 40 AF
& AM of Grantsville and the Grantsville Chamber of Commerce, and
served 50 years as a Mason; and
Whereas, Mr. Morford was elected to the House from Calhoun
County in 1956 and was reelected in 1958 and 1960; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the members of this body express regret and sorrow at the
passing of James E. Morford; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to prepare copies of this Resolution for
presentation to the family of James E. Morford.
